sosanfibios.org was financed by the Biodiversity FoundationÕs 2003 call to provide financial aid for environmental research projects. Besides these web pages the project will facilitate the organisation of conferences on this subject, the publication of articles in specialised journals, the production of publicly available material about the project, the sending of samples for analyses.   The Foundation BBVA financed the project "Emerging Diseases in Amphibians: The big threat for biodiversity" in the first call for help for research in Conservation Biology. Through this project we are studying the incidence of emerging diseases in various countries (Spain, Ecuador, Chile, Coast Rica, Perú, Bolivia, India, Australia and the United Kingdom).   The Department of the Environment for the Community of Madrid and especially the Director of Conservation for Peñalara Natural Park, D. Juan Vielva and all his team who have supported enthusiastically our work in Peñalara where we have been studying the incidence of chytridiomycosis since 1999.   The Departments of the Environment of the distinct autonomous communities that have kindly facilitated the permits required for the analysis of the situation in the study areas under their jurisdiction.
