Spain was the first country in Europe where chytridiomycosis was detected. Since the first outbreak in 1997 we have detected mass mortalities in four more populations. Three species seem to be particularly affected. Molecular analyses indicate that Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis is found across the Iberian Peninsular, however, on many occasions it is not pathogenic to the host species.
